Further Leave to Remain also Spouse, Visa extension A2  exam preparation course
After two-and-a-half years in the UK, non-EEA nationals on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement must pass a SELT in speaking and listening at A2 level in order to qualify for further leave to remain. The A2 English Certificates are from Trinity College which is one of the approved examining body on the Home Office language partner’s SELT list.

During the exam the candidate is expected to demonstrate the following communicative skills and meet the language requirements listed below.

The candidate is expected to demonstrate the ability to understand and use:

  1. Present continuous tense
  2. Can and can’t
  3. Prepositions of movement from, to, up, down, along, across
  4. Prepositions of time on, in, at
  5. Prepositions of place near, in front of, behind, opposite
  6. Past tense of the verb to be
  7. Link words and, and then

The candidate is expected to demonstrate the ability to understand and use vocabulary related to:

  1. Jobs w Places in the local area
  2. Place of study
  3. Home life w Weather
  4. Free time
  5. Times and dates
  6. Ordinal numbers up to 31st for dates
  7. Words and phrases relating to the language functions listed above

Phonology

  1. The correct pronunciation of words relevant to the lexical areas listed above
  2. The use of contractions where appropriate
  3. Basic stress and intonation patterns for words, short sentences and simple questions
